About ONMC
The Ottawa New Music Creators (ONMC) was founded in 2007 by composer Evan Ware in response to a definite need in Canada’s Capital Region for an organization devoted to promoting new music. Regional composers and performers interested in promoting new music were brought together to help form the mission and vision of this organization. ONMC fosters the creation and performance contemporary music, reflecting the diverse music and culture of Canada, including but not limited to:
- contemporary classical music
- creative improvised music
- interdisciplinary creations
- new music from non-western traditions
- innovative forms of electronic and electro-acoustic music
- experimental and exploratory modes of music making
ONMC has facilitated the premieres of new music, commissioned new works by local composers, and sponsored new-music events at local festivals. For example:
- In March, 2010, ONMC sponsored a visit by world-renowned Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer.
- In the Spring of 2011, Pauline Oliveros visited the city thanks to the initiative of the ONMC.
Presently ONMC runs a regular concert series titled Contemporary Revolution which unites audiences interested in new music with artists and composers of innovative new music.
